Lightweight laptops with the latest Intel chips, at a very attractive price.

Xiaomi has just announced a new laptop, launching first for the Indian market. Starting at ₹41,999 (roughly $555), the Mi NoteBook 14 is a nicely compact laptop, that comes equipped with the latest 10th generation Intel Core i5 and i7 processors, and several different options for Nvidia GPUs.

Xiaomi has made the interesting decision to design this laptop without any built-in webcam. Instead, these will be bundled with a detachable Mi Webcam HD for video calls and such. This has allowed them to keep the bezels around the screen really slim, and could also be an advantage for privacy concerned users. For security, you can use a Mi Band smart band to quickly unlock this laptop, and the battery is rated for “Up to 10 hours”.

The Mi NoteBook 14 comes in two versions, the regular NoteBook 14, and the more premium “Horizon Edition”. The standard version weighs in at 1.5kg, comes with an Intel i5-10210U processor, offers either Intel’s UHD 620 integrated graphics or Nvidia’s GeForce MX250 GPU. The Horizon Edition is slightly lighter at 1.35kg, offers slightly thinner bezels around the screen, has a more powerful GeForce MX350 GPU, and comes with either an i5-10210U processor or a more powerful i7-10510U option.

All versions of this laptop come with 8gb of RAM, and the top of the range Horizon Edition offers a 512gb gen 3 NVMe.

The prices for launch in the Indian market breakdown as follows, and the conversion to US Dollars:

  • Mi NoteBook 14: Core i5, Intel UHD 620, 256gb SSD, 8gb RAM - ₹41,999/$555
  • Mi NoteBook 14: Core i5, Intel UHD 620, 512gb SSD, 8gb RAM - ₹44,999/$595
  • Mi NoteBook 14: Core i5, Geforce MX250, 512gb SSD, 8gb RAM - ₹47,999/$634
  • Mi NoteBook 14 [Horizon Edition]: Core i5, Geforce MX350, 512gb SSD, 8gb RAM - ₹54,999/$726
  • Mi NoteBook 14 [Horizon Edition]: Core i7, Geforce MX350, 512gb NVMe SSD, 8gb RAM - ₹59,999/$792

All versions of the NoteBook 14 come with Three full-size USB ports, a USB-C port, an HDMI port, headphone port, and a charging port, and it is sold with a 65W fast charger.

It’s a competitively priced lineup of devices, the entry model is a great starting price, and for not much more you get some decent upgrades. Unless you’re on a strict budget, I’d say it’s worth getting one of the higher-end models, especially if you want to do any gaming. The Geforce MX350 offers a good bump in performance, making either of the Horizon Edition options more suitable for anyone interested in playing games.

This is another laptop that currently hasn’t been announced for international release, with Xiaomi specifically focusing on the Indian market, at least for now. We’ll have to wait and see if this is a model that makes it to other markets. It’ll be released in India on June 17th, with no details on other markets so far. If it did make it to a wider international release, it’s likely that it would cost a little more in other regions, but it would hopefully still be as competitively priced.

If you want to check out all the details, the livestream announcing this laptop was broadcast earlier today and has been archived here. These make an interesting counterpart to the recently released Ryzen based refresh of Xiaomi’s RedmiBook laptops, so whether your preference is for an Intel or an AMD processor, Xiaomi has options to get you covered.
