The corners of the chassis are well rounded.  The plastic lids with a Dell logo in the middle are removable and can be replaced with another color. The Dell Inspiron 15R 5520 isn’t exactly a lightweight, sleek or gorgeous looking laptop. However, it has all the characteristics that are needed for good performance.

Dell Inspiron 15R BackPowered by an Intel Core i processor paired with 4GB memory, the Dell Inspiron 15R 5520 is capable of handling daily computing tasks with great ease. The performance of Dell Inspiron 15R 5520 is far better than laptops powered by 2nd generation Intel Core i processors. The integrated graphics chip is able to churn out 24 frames on medium-low quality settings in games like Lost Planet 2 DX9. However, the integrated graphics chip performance dips in games like Crysis DX10.

The integrated Intel HD Graphics 4000 is not capable of handling Crysis DX10 game at high quality settings even at its native resolution. The 15.6” display panel renders bright pictures with true colors and sharp image detail. However, the picture quality suffers in scenes with a dark background. The picture loses luster when viewed from an angle, and the colors appear completely washed out when you look at the display from the sides. The screen gets darker as you tilt it backward.

Dell Inspiron 15R ColoursAll four USB ports provided in Dell Inspiron 15R 5520 are USB 3.0 ports.  One of the USB ports is the PowerShare port that can recharge USB devices even when the system is not on. The HDMI video output ports are useful for connecting larger displays while the VGA port is useful to connect older displays. The 500 GB hard drive is sufficient to store your photos, movies and music collection. The Dell Stage in Inspiron 15R 5520 features an icon drive user interface that provides easy access to music, photos and videos stored on your hard drive. The HD 1.0MP webcam is ideal for video conferencing and casual video chats with your friends and family.

Glossy 15.6” inch screen
2GB memory only in default configuration

The Dell Inspiron 15R 5520 is a good laptop with powerful components. However, 2GB memory and the glossy 15.6” inch screen are some things that surely need an upgrade. At a starting weight of 6.05 lbs, it is a bit on the heavier side making it less travel-friendly.

However, the Dell Inspiron 15R 5520 can be a good desktop replacement option for people looking to get rid of their desktop to remove the clutter. The laptop has a good number of input/output ports and connectivity options. Users who are willing to spend more always have the choice of upgrading their systems by selecting better performing components.
