The laptop is equipped with an Intel Dual Core processor, integrated graphics chip, and 2 GB DDR3 memory that render more than adequate computing power for daily computing tasks.  The Asus X53E can be an ideal replacement for your desktop or a good laptop for people who want to buy a machine for basic use and some entertainment. The overall design of the Asus X53E is quite attractive. The high quality aluminum textures on the cover and silver color etching of ASUS on the lid gives the laptop a premium look.

Asus X53E Laptop Back SidePowered by an Intel® Celeron® Dual-Core B815 GHz Processor and 2GB DDR3 memory, the Asus X53E offers good performance for common daily computing tasks such as word processing, surfing the Internet, listening to music and watching movies. The built-in Altec Lansing speakers enhance your music listening and movie watching experience.   The Super Multi DVD writer can read and write dual layered DVDs along with single layer DVDs and CDs. The Intel® Celeron® Dual-Core B815 GHz Processor with clock speed of 1.60 GHz offers good computing power in combination with the DDR3 memory.

Asus has used a Chiclet style keyboard in the X53E, which has good key spacing ergonomics for comfortable typing. A single key measures 15×15 and has a corrugated surface. The space between keys is around 4 mm, which allows the user to type fast without making mistakes caused by the accidental pressing of side keys. With a diagonal length of 115m, the TouchPad is one of the biggest available in laptops under the £500 category. The usable area of the TouchPad is around 85mm, and that is a good characteristic. The 15.6 inch display with LED backlight fitted in the Asus X53E calls for special mention.

The display resolution is around 1366×768 pixels with an aspect ratio of 16:9. If the 15.6” display is not enough, you can connect the Asus X53E to a larger display through a VGA or HDMI port provided in the laptop. The VGA port can be used to connect older devices, while the HDMI port is useful to connect to modern larger displays that already have an HDMI port.  The USB ports are well placed on the side of the chassis and offer convenience of accessibility. The 6 cell battery in X53e provides longer runtimes.

Good configuration at given price
Big keyboard keys
Large TouchPad
HDMI and VGA port for connecting larger displays

Absence of USB 3.0 ports
Average processor
No discrete graphics card
2GB memory only
No Blu-ray drive

The Asus X53E is a good laptop with basic configurations. It is a value for money product, if not a bang for buck one. It does lack some components such as a Blu-ray drive and USB 3.0 ports that are common in modern laptops. However, Asus X53E does offer a good number of I/O ports and connectivity options that are not found in laptops belonging to the under £500 category. The Asus X53E is an ideal laptop for students and travelling executives who need a laptop for basic computing tasks.

Though not large, the 320GB SATA hard drive capacity is adequate to carry your favorite music and movies that you can watch while travelling. It is only available in white, which can act as a dampener for people expecting color options while buying a laptop. Today when Intel Core i3, i5, and i7 processors have become the norm in all laptop categories, an Intel Celeron Dual Core processor seems archaic. Anyone looking for a laptop for writing, surfing, watching movies and listening to music should consider Asus X53E before making a purchase decision.
