The Asus K55VD is a budget friendly laptop featuring the Ivy Bridge generation Intel Core i processors that are known to present superior performance in gaming and intensive multitasking. The laptop is decent looking and has a good build quality. The aluminum chassis of Asus K55VD is available in an array of colors. The overall coloring scheme of the laptop includes an intelligent mix of different colors such as dark brown, black plastic bronze and faux-brushed metal. The Asus K55VD has a decent configuration which includes Intel Core i3, i5 and i7 processors, 4GB RAM that can be expanded up to 8GB, and different options in HDD storage space. The lowest capacity hard drive available in Asus K55VD is 320 GB SATA hard drive while the largest storage capacity hard drive is 1TB. All hard drives have same spindle speed-5400rpm. The only exceptions are 500GB and 750 GB hard drives which have a higher rpm- 7200.
The Intel Core processors are fitted on the new Intel Chief River Chipset HM76 which is specifically designed for new generation processors. The Asus K55VD configuration includes a decent array of input/output ports such as a pair of USB 3.0 ports, 1 USB 2.0 port, VGA, HDMI ports and the regular earphone and headphone jack. Asus offers different choices for the optical disk drive in Asus K55VD. The Super multi DVD is included in the default configuration. Users can choose the configuration with the Blu-Ray DVD combo or Blu-ray writer.

The Asus K55VD is equipped with 3rd generation Intel Core i processors featuring several advanced technologies such as increased multithreading capabilities and support for various Intel technologies such as adaptable clock frequencies according to system load. The combination of a powerful processor, 4GB RAM and a discrete graphics card is more than adequate to handle daily computing tasks.
The multi-threading capability of the Intel Core iI processors allows the Asus K55VD to render satisfactory performance even when several applications are running simultaneously. The keyboard fitted in the Asus K55VD is pleasant to type due to good spacing between keys. The dedicated numeric pad is convenient when using applications such as MS Excel or other accounting programs. Some users may complain that the touchpad that is not of premium quality. The sensitiveness of the touchpad is more on the lower side, and it may take time for the user to get accustomed to the pressure sensitive regions in the touchpad. The buttons are a bit loose and clunky as well.
The NVIDIA graphics card fitted in the Asus K55VD is not a gaming chip. Users will be able to play few gaming titles at low-to-medium settings. Most of the games released in 2012 cannot be played on Asus K55VD. The 15.6” glossy screen produces bright colors. However, the picture loses clarity at narrow vertical viewing angles. The branded speaker’s performance is average, and the sound quality delivered is decent.
